Toyota and Camburg Racing The Mint 400

TORRANCE, Calif., (November 1, 2016)In 1979, Toyota decided that off-road racing was a good way to demonstrate the durability of its trucks. Today, the newest addition to Toyota’s TRD collection, the Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck debuts as a key showpiece at TOYOTA’s booth at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.

Camburg Racing’s Jason Campbell took the lead in building the intrepid Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck. “This truck was built to redefine capability,” Campbell explained. “The Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck let’s you go places most other trucks would ordinarily see only on a map.”

Tacoma is the best-selling midsize pickup for the past 10 years. The Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck’s rugged stock 3.5-liter Atkinson Cycle Engine boasts a 4WD drivetrain with Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control. A beefed up suspension with FOX 2.5” coilovers with remote DSC adjuster along with front and rear Fox 3.0” Bypass Shocks with rear piggyback reservoirs make this more than an average contender.

There is no better way to showcase the rugged durability of the Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck than by entering the “The Great American Off-Road Race”—the 2017 MINT 400.

The Mint 400 is the largest and most prestigious off-road race in America and is to be held March 1-5, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. “The Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck is the most badass Tacoma we’ve developed,” says John Myers, National Trucks Vehicle Marketing and Communications Manager at Toyota Motor Sales. “The Mint 400 represents the most robust example of desert racing. It’s an excellent proving ground for this special build.”

Name drivers are lined up to drive the Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck to victory. When asked who the drivers are, Myers responded, “We’re not ready to announce yet, but let’s just say people will recognize them. Stay tuned.”

Tacoma has also won Edmund’s best resale value award: Tacoma has the highest resale value of any vehicle on the road today.

We are proud to release our new line of KINETIK Series billet aluminum uniball upper control arms.

CAD designed and CNC machined in-house from aircraft quality aluminum gives the ability to bring additional design elements and features to the table. The arms correct suspension geometry for better handling and drivability both on and off-road by correcting camber and caster for lifted applications. Replacing the factory ball-joint with a much larger FK 1.25” or 1.50” uniball bearing allows for more useable wheel travel with a much higher strength rating needed for the rigors of off-road use. Having FK 7/8” rod ends at the frame pivot allow for additional adjustment and zero deflection under hard use and braking. These are available for current model Toyota, Raptor and Chevy trucks.camburg_taco13

Rigid Industries is releasing there new series of LED light bars simply known as ADAPT. So our Camburg Trail Edition Tundra was requested to display the new light bars at the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. If you have a chance to get to the show this year make sure you drop  by the Rigid Industries booth to see it for yourself. We also took this opportunity to show off our new Camburg Trail Edition Tundra front bumper. The CTE Tundra bumper features a hidden winch mount as well.

Congrats to Todd Walter and his AMR team for taking 2nd place for the weekend at the Best in the Desert Bluewater Desert Challenge in Class 7100. Todd runs our Camburg 2.5 front race hubs, our complete Camburg rear end connected to our Tacoma 05-16 L/T spring-under kit. This was a new build and his first time racing, to see him do so well is a testament to the parts and effort he made.

Unfortunately our plans for the 2016 Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race didn’t pan out as we planned. With our KINETIK 6100 Spec TT at it’s best and dialed in for the race, we were hoping for a podium finish. The start the race became a quick bottle neck of trucks and buggys stuck in the silt beds. Getting around one group at race mile 5 we came into another jam at race mile 8 where we weren’t able to pass by and had to come to a stop. Soon after we were hit from behind by another 6100 truck at race speed in the blinding dust. Luckily driver and co-driver were still in the truck and belted in. Only having the wind knocked out of them, the situation could have been much worse as they were about to get out. Once it was safe to proceed, they got out and found the other truck up on top of them. Once the dust settled, they had to wait for a BITD support truck to tow the trucks apart. 1.5 hours later, they determined the race was over for us and would have to limp the truck off course. The crash damaged the engine radiator and both transmission coolers among other things.

We’ve already started repairing the truck and getting it ready for the next BITD race, the Bluewater Desert Challenge in October. Thanks to all our sponsors, team members, supporters and fans, we’ll get them next time.

Now at the half-way point in the series the Camburg team is tied for 2nd in points with one other team and looking to better their results at the upcoming Vegas to Reno race in August. Before then, they will be racing the SCORE Baja 500 down in Baja, Mexico on June 6th in the TT Spec class.

Congrats to Alex and the entire GHA Racing team on their win at the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 race. They race one of our KINETIK Camburg built 6100 Spec Trophy Trucks. With this race win, it also puts them in first place in points for the year.
